arrow History of NCU

1915 NCU was founded at NanKing and became one of the top leading universities in South-Eastern China.
1936 NCU was moved to Sapingba, Chungching during the anti-Japanese war.
1962 NCU was reinstated in Taiwan at Miaoli, as the Graduate Institute of Geophysics of the National Central University.
1968 NCU moved to Jhongli and became the Science College of the National Central University.
1975

1.8000 trees were planted to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s death.

2.NCU established Computer Center.

1979 NCU was officially reestablished with it original name, National Central University. It comprised three colleges: Science, Engineering, and Liberal Arts.
1982 Dr. Chuan-Tao Yu succeeded to presidency.
1984 NCU established the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research.
1990 Dr. Chao-Han Liu succeeded to presidency after President Chuan-Tao Yu resigned his commission.
1994 NCU built the first satellite remote sensing of ground reception site in Taiwan.
1997 Dr. Chao-Han Liu, the first elected president of the University
1999

1.ROCSAT-1, a satellite which NCU scientists helped build was successfully launched - a landmark in the history of Taiwan’s space technology studies.

2.The opening of NCU Lulin Observatory.

3.NCU obtained a registered trademark of ”Jhongda”.

2000

1.President Chao-Han Liu re-elected to serve a second term.

2.NCU cooperated with National Science Council for the learning models of the Internet communities which called “EduCities”.

2001 NCU was selected as one of the major research-oriented universities eligible for government’s special project support.
2002

1.NCU joined hands with Chiao Tung University, Tsing-Hua University and National Yang-Ming University in the vicinity to form the "University System of Taiwan".

2.The NCU Lulin Observatory discovered the first minor planet of Taiwan named “Lulin 1”.

2003

1.Dr. Chuan-Sheng Liu succeeded to presidency.

2.The College of Hakka Studies was established as the seventh college.

2005

1.NCU celebrated its 90th anniversary.

2.The largest personal donation in NCU:NT$257 millions donated from Chairman of Delta Electronics, Mr. Bruce Cheng.

2006

1.NCU obtained yearly support of extra NT$600 million for the first two years from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.

2.Dr. Lou-Chuang Lee succeeded to presidency.

2007 The NCU Lulin Observatory discovered the first comet of Taiwan. It was named "Comet Lulin" after the observatory.
2008

1.President Lou-Chuang Lee being appointed as the Minister of National Science Council, Dr. Wei-Ling Chiang served as the acting President.

2.NCU all ranked “excellent” for Academic Execution Performance Qualified for “50 billion NT$ in 5 Year” founded by the Ministry of Education for the past three years and obtained yearly support of extra NT$700 million for the last three years.

2009 Dr. Wei-Ling Chiang succeeded to presidency.
