Abstract:
The well known Maxwell’s equations in classical electro-magnetirsm give rise to gauge theory with profound mathematical values, especially in the theory of vector bundles. An obvious property in Maxwell’s equations is the dual correspondence of electric and magnetic field by a sign. Such a correspondence can be generalized in the form if “gauge groups” and “dual gauge groups”. We give a brief overview of this correspondence, and describe how they gradually evolve into the theory of Hitchin moduli spaces.
