背景資料：

媒體理論、媒體運動者。
畢業於阿姆斯特丹大學（UvA）政治系
Adilkno（The Foundation for Advancement of Illegal Knowledge）的成員，
1983年於阿姆斯特丹一群與媒體相關的知識分子所共同成立；

曾任Mediamatic（媒體藝術雜誌）編輯（1989-1994）於中歐與東歐多所大學與學院訪問，教授《媒體理論 / Media Theory》。

Digital City/DDS 荷蘭獨立網路（Free Net），PressNow!東南歐獨立媒體聲援運動與HelpB92聲援南斯拉夫獨立媒體 B92 運動的共同發起人；

Next 5 Minutes 1-3（阿姆斯特丹，1993/96/99）國際戰略媒體研討會，Metaforum I/II/III（1994-96），以及Ars Electronica（林茲，1996-98）與Interface 3（漢堡，1995）、TML / Temporary Media Laborary，暫時媒體實驗室（赫爾辛基，1999）等研討會的共同組織者與主持人。

1995年春天與柏林 Pit Schultz 共同創立了國際性的網路批判論壇 nettime，這個論壇同時是一個英文與荷蘭文的郵遞論壇（mailing list）、一系列的會議與出版文集---例如 zkp 1-4，網路批判 Netzkritik（ID Archiv, 1997），以及 Readme! / zkp 5（Autonomedia, 1998）。

以Adilkno的名義出版了一系列的論述，包括《影像的帝國》（1985），《打破運動，佔領媒體》（Cracking the Movement, Squating Beyond the Media , 1990），論述阿姆斯特丹無住屋者的「佔屋運動」（Squatter movement）。《要死，還是要聽？Listen or Die》介紹關於獨立廣播電台。集體的理論著作包括：《媒體檔案》（1992），《資料丹迪 the Datadandy》（1994），以及《電子的孤寂》（1997）。他目前以 De Waag舊與新的媒體協會（the Society for Old and New Media, http://www.waag.org）為基地，並固定往返日本授課，近期的重要作品包括「混雜媒體空間」（Hybrid Workspace，德國卡索第十屆文件大展DocumentaX, Kassel, 1997, http://www.medialounge.net）與「暫時媒體實驗室」（TML / Temporary Media Laboratory，赫爾辛基，1999）。

English Bios:

Geert Lovink (1959, Amsterdam), media theorist and activist, studied political science on the University of Amsterdam. Member of Adilkno, the Foundation for the Advancement of Illegal Knowledge, a free association of media-related intellectuals established in 1983 (Agentur Bilwet auf Deutsch). He is a former editor of the media art magazine Mediamatic (1989-94) and has been teaching media theory throughout Central and Eastern Europe. He is a co-founder of the freenet 'Digital City' (http://www.dds.nl), the support campaign for independant media in South-East Europe "Press Now" and co-organiser of conferences such as Next Five Minutes 1-3 (93-96-99), Metaforum 1-3 (Budapest 94-96), Ars Electronica (Linz, 1996/98) and Interface 3 (Hamburg, 1995). In the spring of 1995, together with Pit Schultz, he founded the international 'nettime' circle which is both a mailinglist (in english and dutch), a series of meetings and publications such as zkp 1-4, Netzkritik (ID-Archiv, 1997) and Readme!(Autonomedia, 1998). From Adilkno the following books appeared:'Empire of Images' (1985), 'Cracking the Movement' (1990) on the squatter movement in Amsterdam, 'Listen or Die' (1992) on free radio, the collected theoretical work 'The Media Archive' (1992), 'The Datadandy' (1994) and 'Electronic Solitude' (1997). He is currently based at De Waag, the Society for Old and New Media (www.waag.org). Recent projects are the Hybrid Workspace (DocumentaX, Kassel, 1997, http://www.medialounge.net ) and a similar temporary media lab, temp, in kiasma, helsinki http://www.kiasma.fi (fall 1999).
