Spring 1992
SEMINAR IN CULTURAL STUDIES
授課教師:朱元鴻 (Yuan-horng Chu)
授課班級:A Graduate Seminar
課程目的:
During the past decade, cultural studies has arisen ad a new supradisciplinary
approach to the study of culture and society. (Post-)Marxism, semiotics,
feminism, and postmodernism converge on issues such as television, film,
and popular music, crossing and blurring the lines of academic division
such ad communication, literary criticism, philosophy, and social sciences.
Cultural studies not only subverts the disciplinary fragmentation but also
contributes inquiry and criticism of the contemporary forms of culture
and society. The purpose of this graduate seminar is to initiate students
to these perspectives and methods.
課程要求:
There will be nine class meetings through the spring semester. Students
will also be required to participate in two international symposiums: "Television
Studies: The Cultural and Critical View" (May 13-14, 1992) and "Trajectories:
Towards a New Internationalist Cultural Studies" (July 5-18, 1992) - information
attached below.
Each student will make at least two class presentations and will write
a research paper expanding on one of the topics covered in class. A research
proposal (about 1000 words) will be due by mid-June. The term paper will
be due by August 31, 1992. Grade will be 50% for final paper and 50% for
presentation and participation.
