About
The
Graduate Institute of History began to enroll students in 1993.
The Institute's main goal is to cultivate qualified researchers
specializing in the study of Modern Chinese History and Taiwanese
History.
In addition to
intensive study of Chinese archives, students are also expected to
familiarize themselves with significant western works.
Our students
are thereby encouraged to learn foreign languages, including Japanese,
English and French, so that they will be fully prepared to study
various fields independently.
The
Institute has a strong faculty of more than ten full-time and part-time
members. All have Ph.D. degrees, and are outstanding specialists from
world-renowned universities.

Institute Today
The
Institute currently has 6 full-time Professors, 6 part-time Professors,
as well as 2 full-time associate Professor, 5 part-time associate
Professors, 1 full-time assistant Professor, and 6 part-time assistant
Professors. Each year we enroll 13 students (including professional
students). Our Institute began to enroll students since 1993, and from
1996 on students have graduated on an annual basis. At present, 54
students are enrolled in the Institute, while 122 have already
graduated.
Because we only
have an M.A. program, teaching resources may not be as sufficient as
for other departments. To meet student demand, all teachers offer
different courses each semester. The courses are full of substance, and
the content changes each semester.
To broaden the
horizon of our students, we often invite renowned scholars and
specialists to our department to give academic seminars on every
Tuesday or Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2pm
To
increase teaching efficiency and results, we organize a tour of
historical sites each semester. So far, we have been to Nantou,
Tsao-ling, Hsinchu, Peng-hu, Taoyuan, Pingtung, Tungkang, Tainan, and
Tamshui. As for academic institutions and museums, we have visited the
Taiwan Provincial Archives Commission and the Taipei Shuen-Yi Museum.
