Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in transient astronomy at the Graduate Institute of Astronomy at National Central University, to work on projects related to Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and our 2-meter telescope, working closely with Prof. Yen-Chen Pan and Prof. Janet Ting-Wan Chen.

The successful candidate will work on LSST transients, identify exciting events from LSST alerts, lead follow-up observations, and set up the trigger system for our new 2-m telescope and join the AEON network.

Via an in-kind proposal, NCUIA has joined LSST and will contribute partial observing time on our 2-meter telescope to LSST related follow-up observations. This new 2-meter telescope will be installed in San Pedro Martir (Mexico), with completion date targeted in 2027. The first-light instrument(s) include a 4-band simultaneous imager, and possibly an optical spectrograph. NCUIA also owns and operates the Lulin One-meter Telescope (LOT) and 40cm SLT Telescope at Lulin Observatory, located in Taiwan. The successful candidate will also be granted data access rights and participate in various time-domain surveys, including LSST, ATLAS, and ZTF projects, as well as involvement in TAOS2, YSE, and ENGRAVE.

The position is initially until 31st July 2027 and available from now, with the potential for extension based on performance and funding. The salary will be based on research experience, ranging from 65k to 88k NTD monthly (annual salary of 13.5 months). The successful candidate will be a member of the excellent public health insurance system of Taiwan.

We encourage applicants with a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics (but not limited) with observations and programming skills to apply.
