The PPI NCU-Taiwan celebrated the annual Indonesian Cultural Day at Grand lecture Hall of NCU in early of March. There were many stands on site, displaying traditional music instruments, handicrafts, national costumes, and travel information and landmark presentations. They also provided free Indonesian dishes for students and teachers who attended the event. In the evening, performances of musicals and legends showed the diversity of Indonesian culture.

Coincidentally, the Vietnamese Student Association celebrated their Vietnamese Cultural Day in the same place on May 20, attracting many Taiwanese and foreign students. Even Vietnamese students from other universities attended this big event. Because of Chinese immigration and French colonization, Vietnam has rich cultural characteristics. From traditional clothing to culinary delicacies, the uniqueness is evident in every aspect of their culture.

Invited to the event, Hsu Ping-yu, Vice-President for International Affairs, pointed out that Southeast Asia has always been NCU’s focal point for recruiting outstanding foreign students. Among them, Indonesian students are the most interested in applying for the programs at NCU. The Indonesian government has multiple scholarships to encourage students to obtain a degree in Taiwan.

When attending the Vietnamese Cultural Day, Hsu Ping-yu, Vice-President for International Affairs indicated that he “would like to give a mission to every Vietnamese student before they graduate: to convince at least one Taiwanese student to visit Vietnam and experience their local customs.” He wishes that such activities would give our students a deeper understanding of Vietnam and thus inspire them to visit the country.

Both events show their cultural diversity through traditional dancing, culinary specialties and national clothing. Not only was it an artistic and cultural feast, it allowed students of different cultural backgrounds to communicate and exchange experiences as well.
