National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG) of 2018 will start from April 28 to May 2 in 2018 on NCU campus. This is the second time that NCU hosts national athletic games in 30 years ever since the first NIAG event at NCU in 1988, which bears great significance to NCU. NCU will unite together and do our best!

In the closing ceremony of the 2017 NIAG at the Sports Center of National Taiwan University (NTU), NCU President Dr. Jou Jing-yang received the flag of NIAG from the NTU President Dr. Yang Pan-chyr, and Mr. Lin De-fu, Director of Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education being the witness to the handover. The ceremony announced that NCU is going to host NIAG in 353 days from the moment.

All NCU members dressed in “NCU Fellow” T-shirts and showed a sense of unity and strong momentum in the closing ceremony. Students performed self-choreographed dance, demonstrating the creativity and energy of NCU people. Students also dressed in traditional costumes of different countries, hoping to show the cultural diversity and invite sports athletes from every country to join the NIAG at NCU in the coming year.

“I would like to quote from our former NCU President Mr. Luo Jia-lun. In his article ‘New Philosophy of Life,’ he mentioned that there were three determinants for being a brave person: the most powerful body, the most civilized thinking, and the indomitable will. I would like to encourage all the athletes to keep their physical body strong, follow referees’ decision, prepare to fight till the last second, and keep the sportsmanship all the time,” said the NCU President Dr. Jou Jing-yang in the lecture in the closing ceremony.

NCU President Dr. Jou will lead the NIAG of 2018, and the executive officer of 2018 NIAG is Dr. Wu Ray-shyan, Vice President for General Affairs, and Dr. Chen Jenn-dar, Director of the Office of Physical Education at NCU, as vice executive officer. “The coming 2018 NIAG is going to last for five days. We will organize preliminaries in next March, and it is estimated that more than 10,000 athletes will participate. It is going to be a large-scale sports event. Besides, NCU students have excellent performance in many national sports games in recent years, such as track and field contests, basketball, and volleyball. Especially we have talented athletes like Mr. Chen Hong-lin from the Department of Chemistry, who won the gold medal in the men’s 100-metre sprint this year and even broke the record of NIAG. NCU is getting ready for the coming NIAG and let’s meet next year on NCU campus,” said Dr. Chen Jenn-dar.
