Photovoltaic Efficiency Verification Laboratory: The First ISO/IEC17025 Accredited Solar Cell Calibration Laboratory built by a Universities in Taiwan

Posted on: 2018-01-09

The Photovoltaic Efficiency Verification Laboratory (PVEVL) in the Research Center for New Generation Photovoltaics (RCNPV), National Central University (NCU) successfully acquired the ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation from the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF) in 2017.  It is the first accredited solar cell calibration laboratory own by a university in Taiwan. On the basis of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), the credibility of calibration reports issued by the PVEVL were recognized globally. The PVEVL, NCU is not only one of the top laboratories in the world, but also can benefit the solar energy industry as well as promote the research and development of new generation solar cells in Taiwan.

“The new generation solar cells including the dye-sensitized, organic thin-film, perovskite and quantum dot photovoltaics are distinct from the conventional silicon-based, IIIV and thin film chalcogenide solar cells because of the new materials and device architecture. They are the promising candidates for sharing the PV market in virtue of their colorfulness, flexibility, cost effectiveness and impressive conversion efficiency (in particular under indoor lighting)” explained Dr. Chun-Guey Wu, Director of the RCNPV.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Sanekazu Igari and Dr. Yoshihiro Hishikawa from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan and to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan for their great support. Nowadays the solar cell calibration reports with the TAF/combined ILAC MRA mark issued by our laboratory have the same international credibility as the ones issued by the prestigious research institutes, inclusive of the AIST in Japan, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the United States, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Germany, and the European Solar Test Installation of the Joint Research Centre (JRC-ESTI) in Italy” said Dr. Chia-Yuan Chen, Assistant Professor of the RCNPV, who had been in charge for the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory in the past five years.
