The Radar Meteorology Laboratory under the Department of Atmospheric Sciences (DAS) at National Central University (NCU), for its research excellence, was invited by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) to join the observation experiment held during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Game. The experiment was an international and large-scale observation experiment supported by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). NCU research crew was the only team from the subtropical region, being worthy of the pride of Taiwan.

As the NCU crew members visited PyeongChang to conduct the observation, they transferred the technology of the Wind Synthesis System developed for years to KMA. During the Winter Olympics, by analyzing all the data collected by the weather radars in the region, the NCU crew provided information for the immediate weather forecast during the sports events. The professionality and advanced technology of NCU have caught attentions of participants from other countries in the experiment, and also raised the profile of Taiwan in the meteorological field worldwide. Moreover, in the preliminary observation experiment, the NCU crew collected a large quantity of data on snowing, which was less possible to be collected in Taiwan. It was another precious gain in the observation event.

In 1987, the Radar Meteorology Laboratory under the DAS at NCU set up observational equipment in the departmental building, and has been performing weather observations for more than three decades ever since. The crew members in the laboratory are all experienced in meteorological related techniques such as radar hardware maintenance, analytical quality control of data, and data application. The laboratory will be dedicated to continuous improvement, enhancing the research on radar meteorology, reducing the influence of meteorological disaster on citizens, and being the humble guardian of Taiwan.
