Reaching the Academic Summit: Dr. Chi-Hung Juan’s Joint Research with the University of Oxford

Dr. Chi-Hung Juan, Chair Professor at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at NCU, has been awarded the prestigious Academic Summit Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) from 2019 to 2024 for his research on attentional and cognitive control theory and its application in neuropsychiatric disorders. Concurrently, Dr. Juan’s research has also been sponsored by a collaborative grant from the Ministry of Education, namely, “Academic Strategic Alliance: Taiwan and the University of Oxford” in 2018 and 2019, launching an outstanding research project between Taiwan and the UK.

Viewing the University of Oxford as a benchmark, the bilateral collaboration “Academic Strategic Alliance: Taiwan and the University of Oxford” aims to create a strategic academic alliance between universities in Taiwan and the University of Oxford and to establish profound partnerships. Dr. Juan has known the Oxford counterpart, Professor Kia Nobre, Head of the Department of Experimental Psychology and the very first Chair Professor in Translational Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, ever since his pursuit of a doctoral degree at the Department of Experimental Psychology. They have been keeping close scientific exchanges for more than a decade.

 

In recent years, Dr. Juan has worked with the research team led by Dr. Norden Eh Huang, an Academician at Academia Sinica. They have developed the Holo-Hilbert Spectral Analysis (HHSA) method for nonstationary and nonlinear data analysis. With this world-leading analytical method, they have established and strengthened such an interdisciplinary academic alliance and research platform. Furthermore, with the accumulated research capabilities of NCU in the field of information engineering and biomedical engineering, NCU takes the lead in the integrative research of brain sciences, cognitive neuroscience, clinical neuroscience and artificial intelligence.
