The 2019 New Space Workshop was held by the National Central University Center for Astronautical Physics and Engineering (CAPE). Representatives from prestigious aerospace companies in the United States such as Virgin Orbit were invited to share recent trends in the industry and give insight into tech development, management philosophy and international collaboration between the new space industry and other companies interested in investing or participating in the aerospace sector.

With the joint promotional efforts of the Taiwan Space Industry Development Association (TSIDA), 65 representatives from academia and industry joined the workshop, of whom 23 were from industry, reflecting a newfound interest in the space sector. In addition to learning about the latest developments in the field, representatives also sought international cooperation and research opportunities and presented the research and progress under their academia-industry partnerships. Future cooperation between Taiwan and the US in fields such as small satellites were also discussed.

CAPE has been implementing the Higher Education Deep Cultivation Project of the Ministry of Education and is actively participating in several different space missions supported by Taiwan and other international partners. This makes CAPE the one of the only organizations in Taiwan academic community with a complete science and engineering ecosystem with both successful spaceflight heritage and an impressive record in space science research. Director Jann-Yeng Liu has expressed his hopes that CAPE and the NCU Institute of Space Science and Engineering will continue to be the premiere nurturing cradle of space industry talent, and will continue to recruit students with passion to join and facilitate the City of Taoyuan to build on its aviation heritage to form a new center of space technology and industry.
